Assistant Engineer: $5,985 - $8,020 per month ($34.53 - $46.27 per hour)
Associate Engineer: $7,080 - $9,488 per month ($40.85 - $54.74 per hour)
SALARY EFFECTIVE JULY 2021:
Assistant Engineer: $6,598 - $8,842 per month ($38.07 - $51.01 per hour)
Associate Engineer: $7,806 - $10,460 per month ($45.03 - $60.35 per hour)
EFFECTIVE JULY 2022: 2% Salary Increase will be applied
*Due to recent budget reductions, employees in these classifications are required to furlough 104 hours between June 21, 2020 and July 20, 2021. New employees will have their required furlough hours prorated based on hire date.
The current full-time vacancy is in the Transportation Division of the Public Services Department. The vacancy may be filled at either the Assistant Engineer or Associate Engineer level depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. The eligibility list established from this recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies for either classification that may occur during the life of the list.
DESCRIPTION & CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:
Under general supervision, the Assistant Engineer performs a variety of technical and routine professional level civil engineering work in the field and office associated with the design, development, investigation, construction, and maintenance of public works projects. Incumbents may be assigned to any of the following divisions: Engineering or Transportation Services.
This is a sub-professional classification in the professional engineering series. Work involves the application of basic and technical engineering practices and principles to a variety of public works engineering projects. Assignments are broad in scope and require the use of good judgment in making technical decisions. Work is reviewed by an Associate Engineer or Senior Engineer regularly to determine general progress. An incumbent may train and functionally lead entry-level engineering and clerical staff members.
Under general supervision, the Associate Engineer performs a variety of responsible and complex professional level civil engineering work in the field and office associated with the design, development, investigation, construction, and maintenance of public works projects. Incumbents may be assigned to work in any of the following assignments: Construction Management, Design, Park Development, Environmental Compliance, or Transportation Services.
This is a journey level professional classification in the professional engineering series. Work involves the application of complex engineering principles, practices, and techniques to a variety of public works engineering projects. Assignments are usually broad in scope and require the use of considerable judgment in making complex technical decisions. It differs from the Assistant Engineer class by its responsibility for independent analysis and project management responsibilities. Work is reviewed by the Senior Engineer, Principal Civil Engineer, City Engineer, or Transportation Services Manager through conferences and reports.
