The position works within policies and procedures in the areas of budget, financial management, compliance and audit, reporting, and department operations. This position specializes in accounting for sponsored and non-sponsored funds, including federal, state, business, and non-profit sponsors, state funding allocations, internal/external sales & services, foundation, and other unrestricted and restricted funding. The incumbent is responsible for developing budgets, customized reporting data queries/downloads, financial forecasts and projections, and consulting with unit leadership (faculty PI(s), staff, department chairs, administrators) regarding financial results. This position works with other CEHD Financial Services Office (FSO) team members to accomplish the budget and financial work of the college and is expected to develop and maintain strong skills in all areas of service.

The College of Liberal Arts (CLA) is the largest college at the University of Minnesota. Our Fiscal Administration Office (financial cluster) is the center of payroll and accounting operations, and resource management operations for the College. We support 35 academic departments, centers and administrative units. Our financial cluster is comprised of four teams each lead by a Finance Manager with a total of 17-Accountants, 9-Executive Accounts Specialists, and 2-Principal Accounts Specialists. Our workgroup coordinates accounting and payroll practices, budget planning and business procedures throughout the College, and is responsible for disseminating, implementing, and monitoring University of Minnesota and CLA budget policies and procedures in all CLA units.

Finance Professional 1 - Mechanical Engineering, College of Science & Engineering Job ID 341684

This position will provide high level purchasing support. This support will include processing large complex purchase orders for both equipment and professional services. It will also require setting up new vendors from a wide range of countries and companies on a regular basis. This position will be expected to be an expert on the vendor set-up and purchase order processing with little oversight. The person in this role will also serve as an expert resource to faculty and staff for various procurement activities. This includes, informing faculty of policy and procedure changes and assisting faculty with their requests to ensure they go into the system in a timely and accurate fashion. This position will provide support to the finance teams as the first level for reviewing transactions and resolving any issues before routing for approvals. In order to do this the person in this role will be expected to navigate and review ChartStrings in the department's charge of accounts, as well as have an in-depth knowledge of the University's chart of accounts and what account codes should be used. The overall expectation for the person in this role is to provide consistent, high-quality support and excellent customer service
