Red Collar Pet Foods is looking for a Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Coordinator, reporting to the site HSE Manager, to join our exciting new pet food business supporting our Joplin, MO and Miami, OK manufacturing plants. Purpose of Role

Assist the site HSE Manager with the company wide safety, environmental and security programs to include implementation HSE activities as part of the overall deployment of the regional HSE program. This includes but is not limited to HSE practices, standardization, training, regulatory change management and assist with programs that support business objectives and industry best practices. Using a proactive approach to work to ensure that the site maintains compliance in all federal, state and local HSE related laws. Manage site HSE license and permits. Ensure prompt communication and coordination of response of all HSE activities. Audit, measure and report against corporate and site-specific standards of performance.

The role requires strong communication, interpersonal and team building skills as well as planning skills in order to foster collaborative relationships and Associate engagement in the safety, environmental, and security culture.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Ensure that the sites are in compliance with company and state and federal OSHA requirements
  • Assist with management of the HSE Management and Associated Systems
  • Assist with the coordination and management of the safety programs at both locations to include reviewing incident reports, inspection reports, OSHA logs, and related documentation
  • Perform Job Safety Analysis as necessary
  • Conduct safety-related training to assist all associates in meeting compliance associated with training needs to include new hire orientations, certifications and refresher trainings.
  • Investigate all incidents or property loss claims
  • Assist with General Liability claim
  • Assist with ensuring that project safety reviews are documented for all capital projects performed at the site
  • Assist with managing a site safety program that engages all associates and keeps safety at the forefront
  • Maintain data of all safety key performance indicators (KPIs). Keep these KPIs visible in the site and lead key initiatives that continuously improve these metrics
  • Assist with preparing for site Capital Projects to ensure site is in compliance with Corporate and Federal requirements
  • Work collectively with site with leadership team to develop a safety culture
  • Responsible for coordinating plant emergency response plan training and drills with regards to crisis management plans
  • Management of site personal protective equipment program and inventory
  • Assist with managing and auditing compliance and training of temporary agency associates and vendors
  • Ensure that the site is in compliance with all applicable company and regulatory environmental-related requirements and policies
  • Assist with management and document appropriate environmental training (SPCC, SWPPP, Emergency Response, etc.) for required plant personnel
  • Assist with management corporate sustainability environmental metrics records through data entry and use of assigned database
  • Manage emergency response activities for their facilities
  • Assist with management of site security requirements in order to meet corporate standards
  • Execute training on site security for all associates and manage overall system to insure proper operation
  • Pandemic management, tracking and reporting
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned


Key Functional Skills/Knowledge
  • Thorough understanding of corporate Safety, Security, and Environmental requirements
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management and associates
  • Ability to work independently to establish priorities with a minimum amount of day-to-day direction

  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills capable of (1) communicating new ideas to senior staff and plant management and (2) to all site associates, visitors and contractors
  • Ability to creatively integrate engineering concepts into the continued development of Safety, Security, and Environmental programs and systems
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Must be capable of working at elevated heights
  • Wearing proper personal protective equipment (hair net, bump cap, ear plugs, safety shoes, face mask and uniform)
  • Bending, stooping, twist, turn, standing for extended time periods, reaching, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to adapt to temperature and environmental extremes such as hot to cold, dust dirt, loud noises and chemicals
  • Must be able to become forklift certified and train the trainer for forklift certifications
  • Must be able to become lock out, tag out certified and train the trainer for LOTO certifications
  • Must be able travel between Joplin, MO to Miami, OK sites on a weekly basis, as well as other company locations or for required training on a as needed basis
    Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in Safety Management, Industrial Safety, Engineering or experience in a closely related field
  • At least 2 years of industrial or manufacturing background
  • A strong understanding of OSHA/EPA and related guidelines with the ability to learn as necessary
    • OSHA 10 hour certification desired
  • Basic understanding of environmental requirements in regards to jurisdictions with OSHA requirements such as community right to know laws, hazardous material storage and disposal methods
  • Understanding of worker’s compensation insurance and property insurance protection requirements is desirable
  • Knowledge of DOT transportation requirements
  • Ability to work flexible schedules and overtime as needed to support HSE needs
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of team, both written and orally combining problem solving and troubleshooting skills needed to effectively facility role activities
  • Knowledge and competency with inspections and auditing of health, safety and environmental programs
  • Previous experience working with continuous improvement projects
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

    Preferred Quali?cations:
  • B.S. degree preferred, but not required
  • Bilingual-Spanish
