We are offering a hiring bonus of $2,500 to new employees hired from this recruitment. The details of the bonus will be discussed at interview and/or offer. Note: The hiring bonus will not be applicable to current City and County of Denver employees.

Denver International Airport is seeking a HVAC Mechanic II for the Life Safety Department. This position will be responsible to perform Testing, Maintenance and Repair on Life Safety smoke control systems and associated heating and cooling equipment.

Additional responsibilities include:
  • Perform installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of smoke control systems. Perform code required operational and performance testing on smoke control systems
  • Monitor the work of contractors to ensure code compliance and quality of work
  • Repair and/or replace HVAC equipment in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and code requirements. Diagnose, analyze, and identify system malfunction to determine the cause of problem and make necessary repairs
  • Monitor programs and updates building (BAS) automated systems to obtain maximum agreed upon efficiency
  • Maintain, repair and/or replace equipment such as air handling and associated equipment, variable frequency drives, and electric and pneumatic temperature controls. Maintain records and prepares reports; and estimates materials, labor, and equipment costs. Repair, or replace electrical and electronic circuit boards, capacitors, transformers, relays, contactors, fuses, and pilot ignition systems
  • Participate in snow removal duties and/or critical incident response
  • Install, calibrate, and repair heating and cooling pneumatic and direct digital controllers, temperature and pressure sensors, damper and valve actuators, thermostats, and switching relays
  • Balance air distribution and exhaust duct systems
  • Prepare work plans using blueprints, sketches, and schematics
  • Respond to assigned daily work orders
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested

About You

We are looking for someone with leadership as well as HVAC systems expertise. Teamwork is key to our operations, and we are looking for candidates that value collaboration.

In addition, we are looking for candidates with some or all the following skills and experience:
  • High level of skill in HVAC smoke control systems, preventive maintenance, repairs, installation and regulatory testing
  • Computer skills and experience with Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)

  • Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
  • Experience: Five (5) years of professional journey level HVAC experience
  • Licensures/Certification(s): This job requires driving. Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements by the end of probation. Possession of Refrigeration Operator, CFC (universal EPA), Heating and Ventilating Journeyman, Refrigeration Journeyman or Stationary Engineer certificates issued by the City and County of Denver by the end of the probationary period
  • Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements
