The Office of Human Resources is seeking an experienced Senior Classification and Compensation Analyst to join our Classification and Compensation Division. Our division's mission is to develop and manage the City and County of Denver's classification and compensation plan and provide related analysis and expert consultation to ensure the provision of market-competitive and internally equitable pay to attract and retain talent to deliver exceptional service to the employees and citizens of Denver.

In this Senior Compensation and Classification Analyst position, you will provide a variety of complex classification and compensation analyses and consultation to an assigned group of city agencies, conduct individual position audits to ensure employees are correctly classified, conduct market studies to ensure pay ranges are competitive with the external market, conduct internal equity analyses to ensure pay parity among employees, and design and administer and/or participate in compensation surveys. You will also support your assigned client city agencies during the annual merit program and other citywide pay programs or initiatives. You will also have the opportunity to play a leading role in various citywide classification and compensation studies and projects.

Additionally in this Senior Classification and Compensation Analyst position, you will:
  • Provide classification and compensation analysis and consultation to city agency leaders
  • Conduct individual position audits to ensure employees are assigned to the appropriate job classification
  • Conduct internal pay equity analyses and make recommendations to management
  • Conduct classification studies to ensure appropriate job classifications are available; conduct market analyses to establish classifications and pay ranges
  • Participate in pay plan design and pay program development (e.g., annual merit, annual market analysis)
  • Administer classification and pay practices and processes
  • Conduct salary surveys for client agencies and/or participate in salary surveys as assigned
  • Participate in process analysis and improvement efforts
  • Conduct compensation practice research and analysis
  • Provide data analyses to inform pay programs, special projects, and response to anticipated regulatory changes
  • Make presentations to stakeholders, e.g., city agency leadership, HR community, the Career Service Board, city councilmembers, etc.

Our Ideal Candidate has:
  • 5 -8 years of progressively responsible compensation experience in large organizations
  • Experience conducting detailed data analyses and collaborating with stakeholders to provide business solutions
  • Strong research, mathematical, and analytical skills
  • Experience articulating complex classification and pay concepts to non-subject matter experts
  • Advanced Excel skills (lookups, pivot tables, complex formula writing, macros, charts, graphs); experience with statistical applications such as SPSS
  • Ability to handle situations with conflicting opinions with a diplomatic and solution focus
  • A sense of urgency to resolve business needs promptly; ability to effectively prioritize
  • An ability to lead with a collaborative approach to build strong business partnerships and gain alignment for practical, appropriate business solutions
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Organizational Psychology, Economics, or Mathematics is preferred but not required
  • Certified Compensation Analyst (CCP) preferred but not required

  • Experience: Five (5) years of experience in a compensation administration environment
  • Education & Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
