Education and Experience : Associates degree in Automotive Technology, Business or Public Administration or related field and six (6) years of experience in fleet maintenance including two (2) years of supervisory experience; or Thirty (30) college credit hours in automotive technology, management, business or public administration or related field and eight (8) years of experience in fleet maintenance including two (2) years of supervisory experience.

Licenses and Certificates : Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state. UST Operator certification within one (1) year of appointment. ASE Master Automotive or Diesel Technician preferred.

General Purpose

Under direction, manage, plan, and coordinate the maintenance activities and operations of the City's Fleet Division including development and coordination of service delivery with other divisions, departments and outside agencies.

Typical Duties

Manage City fleet system. Includes: Manage Fleet Maintenance system used to account for labor hours, parts, materials, fuel and lubricant used in support of maintenance systems for City Owned vehicle and equipment items. Manage and prioritize the maintenance and repair of the City's fleet including service vehicle calls. Coordinate new vehicle and/or equipment replacement purchases and disposition actions. Monitor the Division's Budget, Contracts, Purchase Orders, and Facilities. Coordinate maintenance, repair and equipment requirements with other City departments or outside entities. Oversee inventory audits, requisition of parts, repairs, fueling stations, special projects, such as facility or technology improvements, and vehicle inspection stations. Make adjustments to operations to improve productivity and effectiveness. Monitor service contracts. Write or review specifications, develop requests for proposal, notify Department Administration of contract deficiencies and or poor vendor performance.
Develop and generate divisional budgets, goals and objectives. Includes: Monitor budget; review and approve invoices, contracts, purchase orders and other payments. Estimate labor and material costs; prepare specifications for contract items and review federal, state, and local standards and regulations to ensure compliance. Monitor operational expenditures. Develop and implement divisional productivity improvement measures. Prepare complex technical reports for submission to the Department Head, City officials, federal and state agencies. Perform related duties as required and assigned.
Supervise assigned personnel. Involves: Schedule, assign, instruct, guide and check work. Appraise employee performance. Provide for training and development. Enforce personnel rules and regulations and work behavior standards firmly and impartially. Counsel, motivate and maintain harmony. Interview applicants. Recommend hiring, termination, transfers, discipline, merit pay or other employee status changes.

Salary Range: $62,711.85- $87,639.82 annually
The starting salary is generally at the beginning of the salary range.
