As an academic medical center with a rich history of providing life-saving treatment in Southern Nevada, UMC serves as the anchor hospital of the Las Vegas Medical District, offering Nevada's highest level of care to promote successful medical outcomes for patients.
We are home to Nevada's ONLY Level I Trauma Center, Designated Pediatric Trauma Center, Burn Care Center, and Transplant Center. We are a Pathway Designated facility by ANCC, and we are on our journey to Magnet status.

Position Summary:
Provides varied, complex and confidential administrative support to administrators and/or UMC Governing Board; provides liaison between UMC and Governance Board members and hospital administration; the media, other department heads, government officials and community groups.

Job Requirement

Education/Experience:
Equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college-level course work in business, management, or a closely related field and four (4) years of secretarial experience which has included providing administrative support to management staff. Additional experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Some positions may require Notary Public Certification.

Additional and/or Preferred Position Requirements

  1. Knowledge and skill to support organizational quality, safety, regulatory compliance, including accreditation and regulatory survey activities
  2. Expert skill level in all Microsoft Office Products, i.e. MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher, and Visio.
  3. Ability to create graphs, presentations, and Excel spreadsheets with pivot tables upon request
  4. Strong communications and organizational skills, including medical terminology
  5. Attention to detail and must have excellent time management and organizational skills!
  6. Minimum of five (5) years recent experience* in a Hospital environment supporting supporting high-level meeting preparation, presentation, and post follow up documentation
  7. Minimum of three (3) years recent experience* with Kronos or similar payroll system* Experience within the past 5 years


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements

Knowledge of:
Office administrative and secretarial practices and procedures; UMC policies and procedures; patient rights; department and hospital safety practices and principles; UMC programs, services and organizational structure; laws and regulations governing health care; correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary; record-keeping, report preparation, filing methods and records management techniques; infection control policies and procedures; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.
Skill in:
Providing varied, responsible, and often confidential secretarial and office administrative assistance to high-level staff; coordinating supervisor's activities and schedules; maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive information; using tact, discretion, initiative, and independent judgment within established guidelines; using computers and related software applications; using general office equipment such as phones, copiers, and facsimiles; contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team/work unit goals, objectives, and activities; communicating effectively in both oral and written forms; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
