Job Summary

As a Families First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA) Family Preservation Specialist, you will support Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) efforts to expand the out-of-home prevention and intervention service array in response to the federal FFPSA along with alignment with other agency and inter-agency efforts surrounding family preservation.

This is one of four positions that work together to implement elements for FFPSA in Minnesota. The team works together in collaboration in support of an equitable prevention and early intervention service array across the state meeting the needs of those will benefit from the prevention services response.

Responsibilities include but may not be limited to:
  • Coordinate and implement the use of FFPSA prevention services to meet the FFPSA program requirements and alignment with other department family preservation efforts.
  • Provide technical assistance, consultation and/or information to FFPSA department teams, county and tribal social service directors, managers and attorneys, ICWA Advisory Council, Minnesota Associations of County Social Services Administrators (MACSSA), mental health, chemical health and other service providers, Children's Justice Initiative and other stakeholders as needed to implement new and existing federal FFPSA laws regarding prevention services and alignment with family preservation efforts.
  • Develop and communicate policy and practice guidance of Minnesota's implementation of prevention services under FFPSA.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

**To facilitate proper crediting, please ensure that your resume clearly describes your experience in the areas listed and indicates the beginning and ending month, day and year for each job held.**

3 years of professional experience working in a social services program, with emphasis on child protection, foster care, Title IV or public policy. Experience must demonstrate:
  • Experience working with federal and state child welfare programs, statutes and policies.
  • Experience working with principals and practices of planning and developmental for human service program delivery.
  • Experience working in partnership with communities who live at the intersections of race/ethnicity, faith traditions, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability justice, social justice and more to co-create practice, policy, and systems change.
  • Experience in writing complex technical documents.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Minnesota's human service delivery system, including all children's programs, sufficient to understand the interrelationships between the counties, tribes and the state human services agencies and the nature of the services they provide.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience with using Social Service Information System (SSIS) or a related human service system.

  • Anti-racist practices imbedded and valued within work.
  • Variety of experiences working effectively with others from different backgrounds and cultures.
