POSITION SUMMARY.

The ARRIVE TOGETHER Behavioral Health Specialist participates as a member of the care team by co-responding in the community, alongside a law enforcement officer to help identify and assist with community residents with an unmet mental health, substance use or social services needs and helps to reduce the occurrences of police involvement and instances of violence and escalation via behavioral health intervention. This role is responsible for helping to de-escalate situations involving individuals who are experiencing behavioral health symptoms and for providing needs assessment, linkage and brief case management to referrals. This position determines behavioral health needs and makes referrals to care. This positionoperates out of assigned Atlantic County police departments as scheduled and accepts referrals from participating municipal law enforcement agencies. This role is responsible for coordinating and communicating with law enforcement officers, law enforcement command staff, the crisis screening center and other behavioral health treatment agencies.



This position will engage individuals in a warm and empowering manner, utilizing a person-first approach to all interventions and interactions with these individuals. This position delivers care in a prompt and professional manner, always maintaining the highest degree of confidentiality and respect. This position will be responsible for documenting in an electronic health record, maintaining information/data spreadsheets, participating in data collection and statistical analysis, as needed. This position is also responsible for communicating effectively with multi-disciplinary team members, participants, law enforcement, crisis screening center and other organizations for promotion of program goals. This position supports the organizational vision of building healthy communities together and organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to team work and cooperation.



QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in social work (BSW) or related field is required with minimum three years of experience in a behavioral health setting, one of which includes a crisis setting.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Valid NJ Driver’s License, Registration and Insurance required. BLS/AED certification required within 60 days from date of hire or transfer. CPI required within 90 days of hire or transfer.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 3 years working with behavioral health population required, one of which includes a crisis setting. Experience working with substance abuse population preferred. Working proficiency in MS Office (including Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint) strongly preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This positon must be able to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team model, interfacing and collaborating with a wide range of clinical and social services disciplines who will work together to help to reduce the occurrences of police involvement and instances of violence and escalation via behavioral health intervention. The work setting is in the community working within multiple jurisdictions in Atlantic County, where some of the time may be spent within a police department.
