THE CITY OF LEAWOOD, KANSAS is looking for
an Engineer In Training (EIT)

As an Engineer In Training, you'll be an integral part of assisting the Engineering Team with the design, construction, and project management of the City’s public infrastructure projects. Your daily tasks may include:

  • Assisting the Engineering Division of Public Works with in-house and consultant designs, specifications, and inspection of capital and maintenance projects including streets, bridges, storm sewer, signals, lighting, parks, and facilities.
  • Assisting in the review of proposed construction drawings and submittals for City public infrastructure projects and private development projects.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and presenting traffic flow and control data, including signing, sight distance, and signal warrant studies.
  • Assisting in the review and evaluation of proposed storm drainage designs and grading plans for adequate drainage and erosion control.

We are seeking individuals who are eager to learn the ins and outs of the interworking’s of a municipality and how public infrastructure projects such as streets, trails, traffic devices, bridges and city buildings are constructed. The Engineer in Training plays a vital role in helping the City of Leawood build and maintain its public infrastructure projects!

The City of Leawood offers career development opportunities in which the employee could increase their experience, training, and pay. The position is eligible to receive merit-based pay increases every year (merit increase up to 5% increase). Employees also receive a Time In Service Bonus every three years of employment on their anniversary date equal to 5% of their annual salary.

Minimum Requirements:

Must have a minimum of a Bachelors’ degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited engineering school. Must have and be registered as an Engineer in Training Certification from the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) or be able to obtain within one (1) year of hire. Must have a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record per the City’s drivers Use of Vehicles for City Business policy throughout employment with the City.
