Job Summary
The Counselor Education Program in the Department of Early Childhood, Special Education, and Counselor Education ( EDSCE) in the College of Education at the University of Kentucky invites applications for a regular title series, assistant professor position in Counselor Education. This position is tenure eligible. The appointment is a nine-month appointment, effective August 16, 2024.

The Counselor Education Program is a social justice focused program with specialties in rehabilitation counseling and in clinical mental health counseling for distance learning at the master’s level, counselor education and supervision at the doctoral level, and interdisciplinary disability studies at the undergraduate level. Teaching responsibilities will involve all program levels. The counselor education programs are CACREP-accredited. Faculty provide exceptional education and training to all our students and affirm professional identities.

The individual chosen for this position must meet the following minimum criteria:
  • An earned doctoral degree from a CACREP-accredited Counselor Education or Rehabilitation Counseling program by start date.
  • Certified rehabilitation counselor (CRC) or demonstrate eligibility prior to start date.
  • License eligible (LPCC) in Kentucky by start date.
  • Have experience in (or show potential for) teaching core CACREP and specialized courses in the rehabilitation counseling and clinical mental health counseling master’s programs and the interdisciplinary disability studies undergraduate program.
  • Show a willingness to teach, supervise, and mentor Counselor Education and Supervision doctoral students.
  • Experience as a rehabilitation counselor or mental health counselor, or
    closely-related counselor.
  • An established research and publication track record or demonstration
    of potential in this area.
  • Evidence of grant writing or demonstrate potential for grant writing.
  • Have clinical and/or supervision experience in counseling.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Experience in use of instructional technology.

Responsibilities include the following: teach a course load; engage with Counselor Education faculty in program planning, course development, assist with measures for determining and evaluating student learning outcomes and dispositions; advise students; develop a programmatic research agenda and scholarly writing; prepare and submit grant applications; and provide service
and engagement activities to the profession, department, college and university, and community collaboration; and participate in professional organizations.

The successful candidate will have teaching, advising, research, and service responsibilities related to program, department, college, university, and field constituents. The appointment is a nine-month appointment. Summer teaching may be available and is optional.
